Conclusion
Biotransformation of trachyloban-19-oic Concanamycin A by S. racemosum provided three products. Oxidation of compound 1 at C-17 (2–3), as well as rearrangement of 1 into a kaurane diterpene hydroxylated in C-16 and C-17 (4) were crucial for increasing AChE inhibitory activity. Compound 3 was more active than galanthamine, commercial drug used for Alzheimer’s treatment. To the best of our knowledge, compounds 3 and 4 are herein described by the first time. The results emphasize the potential of these compounds as candidates for development of new drugs for Alzheimer’s disease.
